Boundaries: Keeping It Professional

As a caregiver, you have a professional relationship with your client. That means there are limits, or boundaries, on what’s okay and what’s not.

You are there to help the client—not to become their friend, borrow money, give personal gifts, or share your private life. Getting too personal can lead to confusion, hurt feelings, or even trouble for you or your agency.

Even after a client is discharged or no longer with the agency, the rules still apply. You should not continue personal contact, visits, or social media connections.

Keeping a professional relationship helps protect the client and keeps the focus on their care.

Boundaries keep everyone safe.
